Meet the Conductors!

Thomas E. Reynolds

Tom is a Co-Conductor of the MIT Concert Band in Cambridge, MA and is the Coordinator of Student Teaching in Music Education at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Dr. Reynolds is a board member of the John Philip Sousa Foundation and New England Music Festival Association, Inc., also serving as President of the Lowell Mason House.

A graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music and Ithaca College, Thomas taught music in high schools located in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and New York for 38 years. While at the Conservatory, he was manager and trumpet section leader of the prestigious Massachusetts Youth Wind Ensemble, and he studied conducting with Frank L. Battisti, Michael J. Walters, and Thomas Everett and trumpet with André Comé, Armando Ghitalla, and Roger Voisin. Dr. Reynolds completed his Ph.D in Music Education at the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 2018.

Collin Myers

Collin teaches band at the Cohasset Middle School in Cohasset, MA. Previously, Collin taught band at Auburn Middle School, beginning band and chorus in Rockland, MA and was the high school band director at The Bromfield School in Harvard, MA. Collin is a Co-Conductor of the MIT Concert Band and directs the Worcester Youth Orchestra Clarinet Choir.

Collin received a master’s degree in Conducting from the American Band College of Sam Houston State University. Collin earned his bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Ithaca College (Summa Cum Laude). At Ithaca, Mr. Myers studied with Michael Galvan, Stephen Peterson, Elizabeth Peterson, Mark Fonder, John White, and Craig Cummings.

Jonathan Schmidt

Jon is an active conductor, educator, and performing percussionist from central Massachusetts. Currently, Jonathan is Director of Bands at Auburn Middle School in Auburn, MA and is a Co-Conductor of the MIT Concert Band. Alongside his teaching, Jonathan coordinates the John Philip Sousa National High School Honor Band, a biennial concert band of high achieving students from around the United States.

Jonathan earned his Bachelor of Music in Music Education from the University of Massachusetts Amherst where he studied percussion under Percussion Collective member Ayano Kataoka, DCI Hall of Fame member Thom Hannum, and Sandbox Percussion. His teachers and mentors in conducting include Dr. Matthew Westgate, Dr. Timothy Todd Anderson, Morihiko Nakahara, and Malcolm W. Rowell, Jr.
